Encouraging Physical activity is important. I will share a bit about myself here. Back before the turn of the century, not 1900 but 2000, I was very active all the time. I worked for Nike and I found myself always doing something outdoors. I played basketball 3-4 days a week, I golfed, rode a mountain bike regularly, hiked, and played paintball. It was a good time, however, my time at Nike came to an end and I found myself sitting around not doing nearly as much for about two years. I have always enjoyed food and that enjoyment of tasty foods led to a diagnosis of diabetes. It happens. Back to moving.

Some time in the early 2000's I was invited to a martial arts class. This class got me moving again and has helped keep my food troubles in check. Moving and staying active have been extremely helpful for me in a number of ways. First, as I mentioned my food and blood sugar issues have been best when I am working out regularly. Second, there is a saying "a tired dog is a good dog" I do my best when I am physically tired. What I mean by that is that I am most creative, thoughtful, and focused when my body as spent some of its energy. When I went back to school in 2010 to finish my BS I would get up 3 or 4 days a week and go lift weights and I would train my martial arts 2 or 3 days on top of that. I found that it was easier to focus when studying or research and paper writing when I was tired physically. 

Finally, training helps with the things mentioned above and it also has a calming effect. When I am feeling anxious or struggling with worry or doubt I know that I am able to return my martial arts as a means of calming my nerves and easing tension.

So, get up and take action do something for yourself and or your family. The first week is free and the first month cheap you have nothing to lose.
